PLAYGROUNDS

Outpost Playground
This playground has been newly reopened! This redesign has allowed our playground to be used by all children. The newly accessible features include ramps, music and sensory play panels, features for inclusive side-by-side play, slides and a new rubber surface throughout the entire playscape.

Billabong Playabout
Located in the Australian Outback Area near the Splash Park, Lorikeet Landing, Wallaroo Walkabout and Wild Burger. Kids will love it!

SPLASH PARK

CLOSED FOR THE SEASON.

The nautically-themed water play area has 42 unique ways for kids to get as wet as they want! It includes a fishing boat to climb on, dump buckets, jelly jet launchers, mini water slides and much more. Designed with safe family fun in mind, it’s a really cool place to beat the heat.

ZOO TRAM SHUTTLE

Closed for the season.  Reopening in Spring 2024.

Suggested donation is $1 per person to support the Louisville Zoo Fund — accepted on the tram shuttles via donation boxes. Tram shuttles make multiple stops on a regular route throughout the Zoo. A wheel-chair accessible tram shuttle is available. Tram shuttle seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Subject to periodic maintenance. Learn more here!

BOMA PETTING ZOO

Open Year Round

Located near the African Outpost Restaurant and elephant exhibit. Kids can pet and interact with animals under the supervision of staff members. Meet our adorable Nigerian dwarf goats! A fun hand washing station is located in the petting zoo.

CONSERVATION CAROUSEL

Take a ride on our meticulously restored and beautifully maintained 100+ year old antique carousel located near the main plaza.  Enjoy 48 unique animal themed mounts and 2 chariots while taking a spin around hand painted rounding boards, shields and scenery panels from a bygone era. Surrounded by over 700 solar powered LED lights.

LORIKEET FEEDING

Lorikeets are on exhibit when the temperature is 50 to 100 degrees.

Enjoy a real nose-to-beak experience as you stroll through this beautiful aviary surrounded by brilliantly colored, friendly birds that will eat nectar right out of your hand!  Nectar may be purchased at the exhibit.

BACKSTAGE PASS

Guests on the deck of the Glacier Run pinniped exhibit watching a keeper feed a sea lion.
Join us for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! Learn about the importance of the Zoo’s conservation work, how our dedicated keeper staff care for the Zoo’s animals and get VIP access to areas not available to the public.

Each Backstage Pass Experience is approximately 45-minutes long and includes a guided cart tour with an experienced Zoo staff member, a visit to the Zoo’s Black-Footed Ferret Conservation Center, a behind-the-scenes visit to one of the Zoo’s animal areas, and an up-close experience with Zoo animals and their care team.

ROPES COURSES

The whole family will want to try these exciting adventure ropes courses at the Zoo! Located near the Zoo lake. There are two courses including the two-story high Sky Trail® Navigator and the Sky Tykes™ for beginners or small children ages 2-7 (maximum height is 48″). Purchase tickets at the Ropes Course. Subject to the cooperation of weather and Zoo maintenance.

CAMEL RIDES & FEEDING

Camel Rides at the Louisville Zoo

Take a sail on the “ship of the desert.” Ramp up your Zoo adventure with a camel ride – a ride of a lifetime. The Zoo’s dromedary camels will offer you a memorable ride and photo opportunity. Purchase tickets at camel area. Subject to the cooperation of animals and weather.

GIRAFFE FEEDING

Marvel at the majesty of our tallest inhabitants as you experience one of our most interactive and popular attractions. Enjoy a true nose-to-nose encounter as you feed giraffes right out of your hand!  Keepers will talk with guests about giraffes and answer questions. Pay at giraffe feeding area near the camel exhibit. Subject to the cooperation of animals and weather.
